 Georges A. Gauthier It’s been a very long time since I’ve had a Rush show. I bought these tickets assuming this might be my last. If it had been, I think that would have been alright. On the one hand, you can see and hear the age. Obviously, Lee and Liefson operating at 60-70% is still better than most musicians on their best day and I’ve never known them at their best - they were already 25 years into their careers when I first saw them live - but the endurance and energy isn’t as high at seventy-something. Then there was the feeling that there were two interlopers on stage On the the hand, they were great and the show was amazing. The visuals were nostalgic but playful. They played songs I’d never seen live. I was moved during Bravado. The tributes to Neil were respectful and impactful. And of course, seeing this with Shahn meant we both were remembering Eric, our absent brother, the man who excitedly introduced us to this marvellous band who play songs about Oaks and Maples fighting it out.  E.Fud Honestly, very disappointing. Mr Thile is incredibly talented and I love the sound of a mandolin however, for this concert, he was noodling around and not playing songs per se.  E.Fud An exquisite and truly unique concert experience: Mr. Ma played solo as he talked about his immigration from France to the US, and how he played for the president of the United States as a young child accompanied by his sibling on the piano. He spoke of his time at UNIVESITY and the influences that helped him grow throughout his career. He spoke of how it took him a while to find joy in the music, even though he was a child prodigy and could play exceptionally well as a youngster (the joy and appreciation came later). He played the most famous cello composition by Bach as well as Spiegel Im Spiegel by Avro Pärt. It was a multimedia presentation with a huge screen behind him, and there were lighting effects that spread throughout the auditorium, including the ceiling and side walls.  E.Fud Ha ha ha: 1982 and it was supposed to be The Who’s very “final tour”… they had a two night booking in Toronto, I went to the first night, it was phenomenal, I was right at the front at the stage lip, and because it was so great and because it was supposed to be their very last tour ever I scalped a ticket for the subsequent night and went again.  E.Fud Went to hear Billy Bragg, he was OK, but the true revelation was Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, I went in thinking that since they were all synthesizers they would be not that great Live and yet they were phenomenal live!  E.Fud It’s impossible to believe that Mick is 80 years old, given his extraordinary stamina and incredibly forceful vocal performance. These guys were super tight - they’ve played together forever and they know each other‘s moves and they’re absolutely in sync- and this concert was incredibly fun.  E.Fud Jason played solo; his acoustic guitar sounded absolutely exquisite and his vocal performance was strong, clear, emotional and so incredibly heartfelt. He introduced the vast majority of the songs he played with charming anecdotes that really gave insight into the origins of the song and his connection to the material. The sound set up was perfectly balanced and beautifully projected. Just an incredible performance and it was a privilege to get to be in the audience. And one last comment, the repertoire was perfection, he absolutely chose all the songs that everybody wants to hear, which was very gracious of him to do. Jason Isbell Aug 14, 2026
