Patty Griffin / Rickie Lee Jones

Rickie Lee Jones played acoustic guitar and grand piano and was unaccompanied. She opened with a cover of the Rolling Stones song “dialogue with the devil”, she then followed that with a song called “ugly man” which clearly references Trump. She talked about her voice not being up to snuff that evening; she was perhaps a bit under the weather or had been touring so much her voice was fatigued. She also thanked the audience for being with her over these years and said that she as a music fan herself for other artists’ songs knows that as a fan you take their songs, their catalog, into your heart and love them deeply and make them part of your life, and she knew that the folks in the audience connected with her music in a similar way, and she was very eloquent and spoke with such heart and gratitude.

Patty spoke of being invited to make a gospel record back when she knew nothing about gospel music and she decided to do it, and she spoke at length of her mother who passed away, how their relationship had classic up and downs, but that at the end it was all love. She said that her mom was from a large family, born in 1931, and worked in the woods as a teenager so that she could have enough money to pay for her high school, and that she was the only female in her family to get to graduate from high school, she went on to have seven children; Patti said her mom noticed that the birds she loved so much were decimated: that there were species She no longer saw for many years. Patio also said that was her favorite Super Bowl ever and that it was a bit risky to say so because she comes from New England, and she also said she absolutely loved the halftime show by Bad Bunny as It was phenomenal.
