CRONIK is one of the few hip-hop acts to come out of the fiercely indie-rock city of Bandung in West Java. The guys got started by doing Saturday night performances on the city's famous Dago street back in 2002. With three djs and three MCs, the group began competing at the Festival Kolaborasi in June, 2003. To their surprise, they took home the grand prize and immediately began getting attention from the local music press. Critics took notice of each rapper's unique style and each dj's different approach to scratching.
