Brian Pennington and Nick Meiers formed a one-off band in 2010. For the drummer, they hired Jeremy Ward, drummer of the Minneapolis band STNNNG. Although the band was a one-time thing, Pennington and Meier kept in touch. After a couple years, Brian Pennington placed in ad on the internet for people to fill in his band. Meiers accepted the role of vocalist and bassist while Peninngton played synth guitar. In need of a drummer, Meiers suggested the group contact his long-time friend and common bandmate, Jim Duffy.
