A largely forgotten yet accessible and melodic pop band of the CBGBs/Max's era downtown NYC scene, Nervus Rex was formed by Shaun Brighton and Lauren Agnelli in the late 1970s after meeting at CBGB. They played a slightly retro-styled form of power pop. On the strengths of their catchy songwriting, they were signed by Blondie's then-producer, Mike Chapman for a debut album. The album (1980) sold poorly, and the band broke up in the early 80's.
