Berawal dari sebuah acara kampus bernama Oktaria, yang merupakan sebuah acara sakral yang lebih bersifat senang-senang di sebuah pantai Anyer, terbentuklah sebuah band bernama The Sastro, dimana pada acara tersebut merupakan pertama kalinya para mahasiswa senirupa IKJ ini melakukan shownya. Pertunjukan pertama kali tersebut, juga ditetapkan sebagai hari lahirnya The Sastro, tepatnya pada tanggal 20 Oktober 2001.
