Wannabes were a power pop/post-punk band from Austin, Texas who were active in the 1990s and part of the same music scene that included Sincola, Spoon, Pork, Sixteen Deluxe, and others. Origins for the project can be traced back to 1985 when Hunter Darby (bass, vocals) and Jennings Crawford (guitar, vocals) became friends while attending the same Ft. Worth high school. Guitarist Kevin Carney and drummer Thad Swiderski joined later.
